Apparently I can upgrade the CPU in my laptop (64 bit Sempron) to a Turion with F2 stepping. Granted my laptop is still loooking very rough (hinge covers missing, etc) after it came runner up against air turbulence, but for what was a VERY cheap laptop, it's still doing very well. Granted some keys are now very wonky too... This interests me greatly, but where the hell can I buy a laptop processor? Example models include: TL-64 (TMDTL64HAX5CT) TL-52/1600MHz, (TMDTL52HAX5CT ),F2 stepping TL-56/1800MHz, (TMDTL56HAX5CT ),F2 stepping TL-58/1900MHz, (TMDTL58HAX5CT ),F2 stepping TL-60/2000MHz, (TMDTL60HAX5CT ),F2 stepping TL-62/2100MHz, (TMDTL62HAX5CT ),F2 stepping Help me, Internets! Also, I'm looking for the Config Utility (CU_7920*.exe) for the Cisco 7920 phones. My Cisco account doesn't have enough privileges to download it from their site. Grr.Got it. Thankyou! Updates regarding win7: I was mistaken regarding syncing of two PDA devices - it can do that, just not in the pop-up "HEY I'M A PDA" window that initially shows when creating a relationship between devices - the actual pda thingy (using the old activesync logo) shows all devices with relationships formed, whether they're connected or not, and so forth. With options to sync one, the other, or whatever. It's run the first game I threw at it, one from ~97 fine. No complaints, etc. Regarding installing software, I've only found one which complained about needing to be run as administrator (in this case, solving was right click, run as admin..), but the software turned out to be pants so I promptly uninstalled it. :-) I'll be installing an office suite later today, as I have some spreadsheets to finish. I so hope Koffice is usable in windows, as I dislike OO.org -- and it's feelings for me are mutual! I'm beginning to really like how they've handled the 'start bar'. Icons, no text. Hover over the icon and you get a screenshot (or more if theres more than one instance of the application running), kinda like Opera tabs. Imported all my opera settings, that's all happy and working fine with iPlayer, Youtubes, and all that. The file copy dialogue has greatly improved in windows too, (speed, how many MB copied, etc). Checked out a new portable browser too - QTBrowser, (yes, the same QT that KDE is built on,) it's based on the webkit backend, and it looks to be moving along nicely. OK, Win7 64 bit version installed. Smooth and shiny. It had a slight hiccup with the network card driver, which was easily fixed using the rollback option, and with windows update not telling me it actually wanted to restart to install the proper graphics card drivers (rawrr). Other notes: two PDAs/Windows mobile devices connected at the same time still doesn't work fully (hah!) - you can access both them via the documents shortcuts shown on the desktop, but not in the mobile device center (the new activesync). The UI is going to take a little time to get used to, but it's mostly usable out the box. Startup time is significantly smaller than WinXP, and hdd footprint much smaller than Vista. System notifications are FAR less annoying (no 'pop') when it has something to tell, it sorts storage devices nicely when it's a mix of IDE and SATA. It's not quite /home, but users settings are now in /users, not some convoluted \Documents and Settings string. We have file/folder group and user ownership (FINALLY), and a choice of create, modify, read/execute, read, write, list index and special permissions. Task manager shows services, and for once users logged in. For the fluff, the media player is less bulky, and played the first few files I threw at it with no codec problems. Installation of programs is prompted but not actively blocked and crappon on a la vista has a habit of doing so. Yet to install any games, I'll update with that later with various ages of games, since I'm an avid retrogamer. For the most part it's feeling fast. Theres some obvious exceptions to this, after all file listings do have a little more overhead when accessing due to the fact they actually have better security. I really feel odd and kinda strange for saying this but overal, I'm liking windows 7 quite a lot. It's just.. working. For a desktop system, that's what I want. God that feels weird typing that. My laptop however? Gentoo linux, because I'm a masochistic painslut. Tags: geekery foolery, windows 7 Current Mood: accomplished

There are many things mankind have yet to explain. For example, why does it take so many sacrifices of cute fluffy animals to make a spectrum game load - especially when the game is about, essentially, cute not-so-fluffy animals. Head was a cutey, Heels was kinda cool too. Where _do_ all the socks go after being washed once? I know our dog is a kleptomaniac as almost all cockers are, but that doesn't describe all of them. And third, but most relevant: How the FUCK did I dislocate my large toe while asleep and not find out about it until morning?!? It couldn't be against the wall, since between my foot and the wall, the wall would come out second best. The joint of the toe is now really swollen, very hot to the touch. I'm gonna drown my pain in ibuprofen tablets and gel, methinks. Ow! -sniff-
